Hi Steve, This is excellent news. I remember when it was the Chocolate cupboard. I'd love to see a picture, I didn't notice when I was last in Ilfracombe a few months ago. I hoe other shops in Ilfracombe get the same attention. The high street should be a conservation area, there are a great many original, irreplaceable shop fronts in Ilfracombe and too much poor signage. Thanks for posting about this Steve. It's nice to hear things are moving in the right direction and I hope an appropriate business can be found to inhabit it.

This shop, although still not open, has recently been restored. Although it remains unused as a retail business premises, no expense was spared in bringing it back to life. It was completely taken back to bare iron work and the display cabinets removed and refurbished. A credit to the owners who made the effort to allow the tradesmen to give it the attention it deserves.

Hi Lena,

many thanks for your comment. It's always nice to get positive feedback. The green house was our favourite out of the Ilfracombe What If's. Incredibly it used to belong to a local councillor who let it get into such a state!

We got lots of feedback after the What If Was featured in the North Devon Journal which was really positive. We were hopeful that the council or local traders would take some of the ideas on board. Unfortunately the Councilors and Mayor in Ilfracombe don't seem to like anyone who doesn't live there having ideas for the town (despite the fact that I grew up there and my parents still live in Ilfracombe which makes it feel a bit like Royston Vasey!)

So do you live in Ilfracombe or nearby? We have an idea for the old bus station which should very cost effective and turns it into a beach hut market, like a seaside version of a German Christmas market. It will take a while to visualize though.

Many thanks and all the best,

DBGP
