About What If Ilfracombe

We were asked by the North Devon Journal to makover some shops in Ilfracombe (click on this link to take you to the article:http://alturl.com/uq4x. I was shocked at how bad the high street had got whenever I returned home to see my parents. Out of that article came this blog. We believe Ilfracombe is beautiful, it just needs a bit of love, a sprinkle of vision and of course some cash.

The makeovers can be seen by clicking in the ‘makeover visuals’ category on the right. Here is a small sample:

This is the current state of the building:

But what if was turned into “the green house’ to serve the community as it once did?

Green wall systems absorb noise, are self irrigating, stop graffiti, help insulate the building and enhance the environment. They vary in price but are around £350 per metre square.

That’s it really.

Hello Good People. I just found you on David Airey’s blog despite the fact that I live in North Devon! Love your makeover for The Green House. Hope things continue to go well for you. Keep up the good work!

      Hi Lena,

many thanks for your comment. It’s always nice to get positive feedback. The green house was our favourite out of the Ilfracombe What If’s. Incredibly it used to belong to a local councillor who let it get into such a state!

We got lots of feedback after the What If Was featured in the North Devon Journal which was really positive. We were hopeful that the council or local traders would take some of the ideas on board. Unfortunately the Councilors and Mayor in Ilfracombe don’t seem to like anyone who doesn’t live there having ideas for the town (despite the fact that I grew up there and my parents still live in Ilfracombe which makes it feel a bit like Royston Vasey!)

So do you live in Ilfracombe or nearby? We have an idea for the old bus station which should very cost effective and turns it into a beach hut market, like a seaside version of a German Christmas market. It will take a while to visualize though.

Many thanks and all the best,

      DBGP
